Supporting Information Sample for this post

I am applying for this nursing post because I believe I can make a positive difference, using both my skills and my willingness to learn.

Why me / my strengths

  • I have a nursing degree (or equivalent) and I actively pursue further training and education to improve my practice.

  • In my previous roles I have cared for patients with complex needs, including rehabilitation and end-of-life care. I am comfortable assessing patients, planning care, putting that plan into action, and then evaluating the results.

  • I am good at communicating clearly and kindly with patients, families, carers, and the wider team. I listen carefully and adapt how I speak depending on who I am talking to.

  • I work well in teams, but I also take responsibility when needed. I can prioritise tasks and make sound decisions under pressure, always within guidelines.

  • I have supervised and mentored junior or student staff in past roles. I enjoy supporting others to develop their skills.

  • In my last role I participated in clinical audits and quality improvement projects. I believe this is important to help us constantly learn and improve safety and care.

  • I understand the importance of safe medicines management. I am familiar with handling, storing, prescribing (if permitted), and administering medicines in line with regulations.

  • I follow infection‐control policies carefully and consistently, paying attention to detail in hygiene, equipment cleaning, and safe practices.

  • I am flexible and adaptable. Nursing shifts often change, emergencies arise, and I can adjust to serve the needs of patients and the team.

Desirable / additional relevant experience

  • I have some knowledge or exposure to safeguarding and Deprivation of Liberty processes. I appreciate how crucial these are to protect vulnerable patients.

  • I have worked with stroke patients, or in rehabilitation settings, or I have learned about this through training or coursework. This gives me understanding of their special needs and challenges.

  • I have basic knowledge of clinical governance — how we ensure safe, high-quality care through policies, audits, and reflection.

  • Over time I want to build stronger leadership skills. I am keen to take on responsibilities such as leading a team or coordinating care.

How I would contribute here

  • I would bring my enthusiasm, reliability, and care to the ward.

  • I would commit to working closely with other disciplines (therapists, doctors, social workers) to plan safe discharges and promote patient independence.

  • I would constantly reflect on my practice, learn from feedback, and aim to improve the patient experience.

  • I would support junior staff, share knowledge, and help maintain a friendly, supportive work environment.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how I might contribute to your team at Gloucestershire Health & Care.
