Supporting Information Sample for this post

I am excited to apply for the Band 5 Nurse role on Mulberry / Rosewood Wards because I am passionate about caring for older people, especially those living with frailty or dementia. I believe my skills, values and previous experience align well with what you are looking for.

Experience & Clinical Skills

  • During my training and placement rotations I have worked on acute wards caring for patients with long-term conditions (such as COPD, heart failure, dementia) and patients who are acutely unwell. This has given me experience in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.

  • I have experience in ensuring safe and timely discharges, working with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate discharge plans and following protocols to ensure patients leave hospital safely.

  • I understand and follow infection prevention and control measures strictly. I have contributed to audits and checks in previous roles to maintain ward cleanliness and patient safety.

Communication, Organisation & Leadership

  • I communicate clearly with patients, families and MDT members. I make sure documentation is accurate, legible and completed promptly, which helps prevent misunderstandings and delays in care.

  • In placements I have helped organise shift tasks and supported junior students/healthcare assistants. I enjoy mentoring others and can encourage good teamwork.

  • When senior staff are not available, I have stepped up to ensure continuity of care, coordinating with colleagues across disciplines to manage patient safety and care priorities.

Patient-Centred Care & Advocacy

  • I place high importance on dignity, privacy and respect for each patient. In all my clinical work, I strive to act as an advocate, ensuring patients’ wishes are heard and their dignity preserved, especially during vulnerable moments.

  • I am committed to holistic, person-centred care: addressing not just physical health, but also emotional support, mental health, and involvement of family or carers.

Desire for Growth & Learning

  • I welcome opportunities to develop leadership and managerial skills. I have participated in in-service training, workshops and am eager to make use of preceptorship programmes to refine my clinical judgment and confidence.

  • I adapt well to shift work, and am open to flexible patterns. I believe flexibility is crucial in maintaining high standards of care while also balancing staff wellbeing.
